Artist Statement |

My work seeks to bridge the tangible and the emotional, capturing the essence of memory, truth, and the intangible impressions they leave behind. I view the creative process as a journey—one where curiosity and intention converge to reveal deeper emotional landscapes. Each composition is an attempt to give visual form to the unspoken, transforming internal experiences into meaningful, visceral imagery that resonates with the viewer on a personal level.

Rooted in the vibrant textures of my upbringing in a modest Indian household, my early visual language was shaped by the sensory richness of everyday life: the aromatic spices of the kitchen, the lushness of the family garden, and the quiet influence of a grandfather devoted to his artistic practice. These formative experiences fostered a deep sensitivity to color, texture, and material. After relocating to the United States in 2015, I encountered the works of Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Helen Frankenthaler, and Sam Gilliam—artists whose emotive use of color and scale significantly shaped my own artistic approach.

My practice centers on the interplay of tempera, acrylics, and dry pigments, which together allow for complex layering and tactile expression. The fluid nature of tempera provides a foundation for movement and depth, while the inclusion of bold acrylics and dry pigments introduces contrast and spontaneity. I also work extensively with natural materials such as turmeric, coffee, spinach, and clay to expand the sensory and symbolic dimensions of my work. Currently, I am engaged in a series exploring the emotional states of Peace and Wisdom—expressed through the use of blue tempera and yellow turmeric-infused mixtures, respectively. Through this evolving body of work, I aim to create immersive experiences that invite contemplation, stir emotional memory, and offer a quiet space for reflection on life’s subtler truths.
